Karen Rohrer

Executive Director, Treehouse Theater
Working WITH and FOR children of all ages within my deeply-rooted arts community in Northeast Wisconsin, I was the instrumental leader in launching our nonprofit youth arts organization in 2012. Guided by a diverse Board of Directors, we focus exclusively on educating and showcasing youth, ages 6-18, as they develop countless life skills through theater experiences. I lead by example, combining experienced artistic vision with extensive business leadership skills to oversee all programming, financial management, grant writing, fundraising events, marketing, and cast/crew communication efforts. In 2022, we added an Education Director and Office Manager to assist with daily operations and to reach for families in our community. To ensure consistently high-quality productions, I serve as Producer for each musical, supervising and collaborating with each set of fresh, contracted production staff members. In addition, I coordinate all efforts of community arts enthusiasts and those required of our cast families. A personal highlight of every year, I serve as Choreographer for the 15-minute competition piece that we bring to the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta. We continually seek out theatrical educators (both local and out of state) to share their knowledge and experiences through workshops and classes.

Questions & Answers

How can I get the NEW version of Willy Wonka Jr if already licensed old one?

I saw Willy Wonka in NYC last summer and am excited to be doing the Jr version of the show locally in April 2019.

Unfortunately, in May of 2018, we purchased the licensing for Willy Wonka JR in May - one of our three 2018-19 Season musicals - so that we can legally market all three upcoming productions.  I just recently learned that a NEW, updated version of Willy Wonka Jr is ready and will be on the shelves at MTI in September!  We had no idea that an update was "in progress" - had we known, we would have likely selected a different production this year.

Can you please help guide me on who to talk to about getting the NEW version of this show?  My MTI licensing rep said I would need to now purchase an additional new showkit.   I can't afford to do so, but I also really want to produce the most current version available for this awesome show.
