CANDIDE at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre
CANDIDE at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre
By Tyler Paul on June 03, 2010
The revised 1999 version of CANDIDE has opened to positive reviews at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre! CANDIDE features a book by Hugh Wheeler, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Richard Wilbur. Based on the novel by Voltaire, Wheeler's musical adaptation recounts the story of Candide, the illegitimate nephew of a German baron, and his forbidden romance with the Baron's young daughter, Cunegonde. The new version was conceived and directed by John Caird.
According to The Seattle Times review, 5th Avenue's production of Caird's revision is exhilarating, witty, and triumphant!
