What a night! This year at the Tony Awards®, MTI was honored to represent all four nominees for Best Revival of a Musical. These shows transport us to King Arthur's court, a magical forest, the streets of London, and "a town called Marietta" while exploring themes of injustice, compassion, romance, revenge, and forgiveness. Parade

This year's winner for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Director (Michael Arden)! 

In 1913, Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of thirteen-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor's false testimony seal Leo's fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience and, eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

Nominated for a total of six Tony Awards - including Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Ben Platt, and Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Micaela Diamond, this production has received nonstop acclaim from critics and audiences since its incarnation at New York City Center. It subsequently transferred to Broadway, receiving glowing reviews. A "gripping and thrilling production," (amNY) Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry's Parade is as timely as it is incredible.

Camelot

An idealistic young King Arthur hopes to create a kingdom built on honor and dignity, embodied by his Knights of The Round Table.  His Ideals, however are tested when his lovely queen, Guenevere, falls in love with the young knight, Lancelot and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance.

Nominated for five Tony Awards - including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Jordan Donica, this revival of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's classic has bestowed its regal presence on Lincoln Center with its incredible costumes, updated book by Aaron Sorkin, and gorgeously sung score. Into the Woods

Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical fairy tale follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Nominated for six Tony Awards - Including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Brian D'Arcy James, Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Sara Bareilles, and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Julia Lester, this revival enchanted veteran Sondheim fans and newcomers alike. This poignant production took Broadway's summer months by storm and extended by popular demand with all- star Broadway alums and newcomers filling the shoes of these iconic fairy tale characters.

Sweeney Todd

In Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

Nominated for eight Tony Awards - Including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Josh Groban, Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Annaleigh Ashford, and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Ruthie Ann Miles, this musical has been lauded as "ravishly sung, deeply emotional, and strangely hilarious."(The New York Times) This incredible feat in musical theatre took home two Tony Awards for Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical.

A huge congratulations to MTI authors Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, or Change, Shrek The Musical) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek The Musical) on their Tony wins for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical for Kimberly Akimbo, which also took home Best Musical! Tesori made history as the second woman to win Best Original Score twice. We're also giving a round of applause to MTI authors Robert Horn, Jason Howland, Tom Kitt, Marc Shaiman, David Thompson, and Scott Wittman on their Tony nominations!

Let's hear it for Theatre Educators!

Jason Zembuch-Young of South Plantation High School, in Plantation, FL received the Excellence in Theatre Education Award for his tremendous work making theatre accessible and inclusive for deaf, blind, and autistic students.

And the Tony goes to... Pasadena Playhouse!

And last but not least, bravo to Pasadena Playhouse on their Regional Tony Award win! Pasadena Playhouse, the official State Theater of California, has recently put on a beautifully lush production of A Little Night Music that was praised by the Los Angeles Times as a "crowning achievement of the Sondheim celebration". Congratulations to this incredible theatre -- we can't wait to see what you all do next!
