Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad HAIRSPRAY - Original Broadway Cast
Head to the salon and then dust off your dancing shoes because HAIRSPRAY is here! The Broadway smash-hit and winner of eight Tony Awards adapted from the 1988 John Waters film, is now available for licensing from MTI (Many regional restrictions apply, so please do not announce or advertise prior to receiving a contract from MTI).
HAIRSPRAY is one of those rare shows where both the book and music are equally strong, making it fun and engaging to enjoy not only as an audience member, but as a performer as well.
The dynamic, toe-tapping '60s pop-score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman has an unbridled joy that is infectious, making it impossible to leave the theatre without a smile. Songs like "Welcome to the '60s," "Run And Tell That," and "You Can't Stop The Beat," are thrilling ensemble numbers that capture the optimism and energy of the times.

The show's ballads, such as "(You're) Timeless To Me," "I Can Hear The Bells," and "It Takes Two" highlight the show's sweetness and emotion.
While the show is rife with daffy, lovable humor, HAIRSPRAY is also a story about love, respect and acceptance. The book, written by Mark O'Donnell and Broadway veteran Thomas Meehan (ANNIE, THE PRODUCERS), smartly and efficiently handles multiple plotlines while enabling audiences to invest in Tracy, Edna, Seaweed, and the rest of the rich characters.
The National High School Cast performed HAIRSPRAY at the EDTA's 2008 Thespian Festival, and we've got a highlight reel from the show that'll knock your socks off:
