Godspell JR.

Godspell JR.
Prepare ye for the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on the Broadway musical that inspired a generation.

The original Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award-winner, Stephen Schwartz, and it took the world by storm.  Boasting a score with chart topping songs, Godspell JR. is a sensation that continues to touch audiences.

A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Godspell JR. can be performed virtually anywhere with the simplest of sets, costumes, lights and music and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

cancelled summer program...can we move it online?

Hi, I am wondering about summer performances....our in-person theater camp was cancelled, but I was hoping to move the rehearsals and performances online (Godspell, Jr). Is that legal? I would hate to cancel the camp all together...

Thanks!

Is Godspell Jr. taken from the original version or the 2012 revision?

I would like to know whether the Junior version of Godspell is based on the original Broadway version, or if it is an abbreviated version of the 2012 Revised version. Thanks!

I might have missed this on the website but I'm just wondering what makes this the Junior version? Are certain parables or songs left out of this version?

Is this appropriate for a public school?
I teach and direct in a public school. I am very familiar with this show (at least the full length version) having performed in it twice, and having worked crew on it once, so I know the story and the songs. What I am wondering about is if any of you have done this in a public school, and have you run into any issues because of the religious themes. I saw one comment on another question that indicted that they painted symbols of all of the monotheistic religions on the stage floor. I am wondering if that would make matters better or worse. Am I being overly sensitive/cautious, or has anyone else run into a similar concern?

We received an accompaniment CD with our "Godspell Jr." ShowKit. If we choose not to have a live pianist accompany our performances, this CD is our only option for pre-recorded tracks -- right?

Where to Start?
My school will be putting on Godspell, Jr. this school year. I usually like to show the students a movie of the production to familiarize them with it. In this case, I think it would do more harm than good. Do you have any suggestions on how to handle this particular play: costumes, set, etc.? The cast will consist of 4th - 8th graders.
