Full Synopsis

The Bard Trolls 1–4 introduce the show in the style of a Shakespearean sonnet (“Bards”). King Gristle and his Royal ENTOURAGE prepare for Trollstice (“Trolls Know”). DJ Suki, Satin, Chenille, Cooper, Guy Diamond, Poppy, Branch, and other Bergens are there to help prepare the entertainment for Trollstice. King Gristle gives a brief recap of the first Trolls movie, where Poppy and Branch rescued the Trolls from being eaten by Bergens, and Reporters 1 and 2 swoop in, stopped by Royal Guard Chad and Royal Guard Todd. The Reporters ask King Gristle about the Trolls who aren’t excited for Trollstice, and the king calls in the Royal Hype Crew, including Extreme Announcer and Echo.

Suddenly, the Reporters receive news that the terrible princess Marie Bergenette is on her way to attend Trollstice. King Gristle seeks the advice of his advisor while the Troll ensemble quietly continues to prepare. The Royal Guards inform King Gristle that there is a rumor that the princess has already eaten all the Trolls in France and could be planning to start a war on Trollstice. King Gristle asks Poppy and Branch for help making sure things go perfectly. Then, Biggie informs Poppy of an embarrassing misprint on the poster – “Experience the Performing Farts.” After that, Cooper rushes up to Branch with the news that everything except the pyrotechnics has caught fire, including the Pyrotechnics Troll. Poppy suggests they show King Gristle the performance they’ve been working on, and he loves it (“Musical Medley”). However, the Advisor makes him question his opinion, and Smidge pushes King Gristle for when he plans to invite the princess. King Gristle confesses to the Trolls that he’s feeling a lot of pressure because the princess may try to eat them if she doesn’t like the performance. Poppy declares that they’re starting over and asks for ideas. Branch’s idea rises to the top of the list: performing Troll Hamlet. They decide to adapt the old Trollspeare play for modern times and begin to brainstorm (“Make It Poppy”).

In the Royal Kitchen, the chef does not approve of the Sous Chef’s and Deputy Sous Chef’s cooking. Chef overhears King Gristle confess his fears about the show to Bridget. Chef is delighted that Trolls could be back on the menu (“In My Kitchen”).

Everyone in the castle prepares for Marie Bergenette’s arrival. Bridget is upset to have been assigned Marie’s personal liaison. In all the commotion, Marie’s entrance goes unnoticed. A Scullery Maid, who doesn’t recognize Marie, tells her the Trolls are all terrified of her arrival. Marie informs everyone just where she stands (“Marie Bergenette”). She isn’t interested in the show and demands to be taken directly to the kitchen, where Chef tries to manipulate her into ordering a feast of Trolls.

In the rehearsal room, Branch is horrified at how much Poppy has changed the Troll Hamlet script. Biggie, Cooper, and Guy Diamond act out a few of the new scenes, and DJ Suki tells everyone to dance (“The Hamlet Song”). Poppy has replaced the tragic moments in the story with comedy and dance breaks, which Branch doesn’t think works. Poppy tries to change his mind by taking on the role of Hamlet herself, and Trilliam Trollspeare joins the fun (“Make Comedy Out Of The Tragedy”). Branch worries that Poppy has taken on too much responsibility with the show, and Chef pops in to check on the progress of the play (“In My Kitchen – Reprise”).

Back in the Bergen Royal Court, Poppy, Branch, and King Gristle confer. Poppy suggests King Gristle be on his worst behavior to woo Marie (“It’s Better To Be Bad – Part 1”). They come across a mud puddle, and Marie forces Bridget to lie in it. King Gristle goes along with Marie’s bad behavior, trying to convince her that he is mean too (“It’s Better To Be Bad – Part 2”). The plan works too well, and King Gristle is swept up into Marie Bergenette’s Entourage.

Bridget returns to the castle alone. As she scrubs the castle floor, she laments King Gristle’s treatment of her (“Walk All Over Me”). Bridget overhears Royal Guard Chad, Royal Guard Todd, and the Advisor discussing Marie’s long- lost twin, and they all speculate that Bridget could be the twin, making her the rightful heir to the throne of Bergen, France.

In the Trollstice Auditorium, the Royal Hype Crew gets the Crowd pumped up for the performance. King Gristle begs Marie to give the performance a chance, but she wants to skip everything they’ve worked on (“Seen It Montage”). King Gristle asks Poppy to come up with something on the spot since Marie has already seen everything else. Royal Guards Chad and Todd share everything they know with the ensemble, and the performance begins again, this time filled with palace gossip. Marie loves it, especially Poppy’s portrayal of Marie herself, but Chef pulls the plug on the performance (“The Show Must Not Go On”). Instead of letting Chef win, Branch and Poppy keep the show going (“Go With The Flow”).

Bridget is declared the true princess, Royal Guards Chad and Todd decide to become actors, and Marie decides to become a theatre critic. Chef is apprehended, and the Trolls come together to celebrate Trollstice as one (“Trolls Know – Reprise”).
