Combine picturesque mountains with superb theatrical performances, and what do you get? Summertime in Western Utah. This summer, consider journeying to the Tuacahn Center for the Arts and the Utah Shakespeare Festival for exciting upcoming events. Both are “destination theatres.” In other words, people go on vacations in the area, take advantage of the myriad of outdoor activities in this beautiful part of the country during the day and see theatre in the evening.

The Tuacahn Center For the Arts is a professional non-profit presenting and producing organization that "inspires creativity by providing family entertainment and education." Its outdoor theatre will be presenting Hairspray and Aladdin this summer, and its indoor theatre (located at Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts) will house a professional production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

The Utah Shakespeare Festival is located in Cedar City, a mere 45 minute drive from Tuacahn. One of the Festival's two main theatres, the Adams Shakespearean Theatre, is modeled after the Globe Theatre in which Shakespeare's plays were originally produced. The Festival will present Les Misérables (in repertory) this summer. The musical, based upon the novel by Victor Hugo, fits in well with the festival's mission to present classic theatrical works.
