Stephen Sondheim, the sondheim review, In the News
Starting a magazine in the mid-1990s sounds like an invitation for failure. After all, didn’t the advent of the internet sound a death knell for printed publications? In his June 29th TheaterMania article, however, Peter Filicia expresses admiration for a magazine that has not only made it into the 21st century, but has thrived.
Founded in 1994 by Ray Birks and Paul Salsini, The Sondheim Review has published its 61st issue. What was initially conceived as “a little newsletter, maybe 12 pages, two or three times a year” now contains 52 pages of news, interviews, analysis, and reviews and boasts a circulation of 4,000 in 32 countries. It has proven itself to be a valuable resource on the vast and varied works of Stephen Sondheim—as well as a place to showcase regional and college productions. MTI joins Peter Filicia and The Sondheim Review in celebrating this remarkable milestone!
