At Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, Texas, students are performing DISNEY'S ALADDIN with a new twist in DISNEY'S ALADDIN, Dual Language Version. Jasmine, speaking Spanish, and Aladdin, speaking English, rely on their pets to translate as they fall in love.
The students, only four of whom spoke Spanish before they were cast, are getting a fantastic education in the storytelling and community-building power of musical theater as they learn to cross the language barrier, both on stage and in the wings. The age-old tale of Aladdin is proving to be a vehicle for community change as audience members from both Spanish and English-speaking communities join together to watch the same performance... and everyone understands!
