Trying to find show with mostly females for high school

The question you're answering.

We would like to do another MTI show this year for our spring musical but I am very short on guys. I have 2-3 guys who can sing with much practice and coaching. the other possible 3 do have stage experience in terms of acting. I easily have 2 females who could both carry a lead part due to skills in acting and great musical voices. I have another 6-10 who sing quite well. I would appreciate any suggestions. My group does better with pop music. In the past 8 years some of our spring musicals have included the following: Damn Yankees, Footloose, Grease, Guys and Dolls, and Applause.

HONK! is also great. All of the characters are animals and for the most part it wouldn't matter whether you cast a boy or girl. SEUSSICAL, LITTLE WOMEN and MILLIE are all great choices as stated above, but MUSIC MAN and FIDDLER happen to have a large amount of good female characters, though there are plenty of men involved as well. I once licensed an all female 1776 at a Catholic girls' school. It was a great way to learn some history and they played all the male roles as men. The pony tales worked for the period as well.
Another option would be Seussical. You have the ability to cast a female Cat in the Hat, and many of Jungle of Nool characters or non specific. Many groups also find themselves casting a girl to play the Mayor's son JOJO, due to the "voice change" of many high school boys. In this case you have, Gertrude, Mayzie, Sour Kanagaroo, Mayor's Wife, Bird Girls, and the Marshall.
I would 2nd both "Little Women" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie". LW has great roles for six girls, and the men don't have to carry a big singing load. MILLIE - 4 female, 4 men - the male roles are a little more significant here. Biggest difference is in the ensemble. LW is really written without a chorus, but we expanded the party and storytelling group to be chorus. Very heavy dramatic show. MILLIE is lots of energy and fun, but light.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is amazing! There is a junior and regular version. There are only three/four male roles plus an ensemble, and TONS of great roles for your leading ladies. I have directed botht he junior version and the regular version, both are great! It is a fun show to do, the kids LOVED it. Let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to help!
Anything Goes would be PERFECT for your current situation. Look into it! Hope that helped!
The Wedding Singer could be good for your group. The "main" guy doesn't have to knock your socks off, because most of what he sings is supposed to be funny anyway. Beware of the language, though!
Little Women might be a nice fit for your group. Look here for more info: http://www.mtishows.com/show_detail.asp?showid=000298 Hope this helps!
