Why Rated R?

I'm wondering why it says rated R when the broadway show says 10+? Is this a different version than the Broadway show? Maybe it's the DC version? Trying to decide whether to take my kids to watch the Broadway show and this is confusing me!

Hi! We chose the R-rating due to strong language in the show. We do not have control over how the Broadway production categorizes itself. We may revisit and change the rating in the future as we and the authors of the show see fit.
